EVELETH, MN (CBS-3) – The man wanted in connection to a shooting and assault in Eveleth Monday morning is now in custody.
According to Eveleth Police, officers arrested Jamar Smith, 29, just after 6:00 p-m in Virginia.
He’s in custody in the Virginia St. Louis County Jail, booked in on 2nd Degree Assault-Firearm-Substantial Bodily Harm and Domestic Assault.
Eveleth Police responded to a parking lot at 551 Hat Trick Avenue around 10:21 a-m on reports that a man had shot into a vehicle parked outside a restaurant there.
The vehicle left before police arrived but was stopped by law enforcement on northbound Highway 53 near the Hwy. 135 Bridge.
Authorities say a woman was driving the vehicle and a man in the passenger seat was bleeding from the head.
The man was taken to a hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his head.
The woman had minor injuries after police say she was assaulted by the suspect.
Smith and the victims know each other, according to police but did not say what led to the shooting.
The incident remains under investigation.
