ST. PAUL, MN (MNN) – Minnesota Legislators head back to St. Paul for a special session that begins Monday.
Despite a weekend of behind-the-scenes talks, there’s no agreement on a number of major budget bills. The biggest sticking points apparently remain so-called “policy issues” in a number of different areas.
House Speaker Melissa Hortman estimates passing the budget bills will take at least seven to 10 days.
Governor Tim Walz said Friday he has “absolute confidence the budget will be finished before the July 1st deadline — but Walz says “we’ll see” whether that work will be wrapped up this week.
To avoid a government shutdown, the two year 52 billion dollar budget needs to be passed by July 1st.
