DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Another round of heavy snow and blowing snow is expected through the day Tuesday with the Winter Storm Warning continued through midnight for the region.
The storm dropped 6.3 inches of snow on Duluth Monday with strong winds creating blowing and drifting of the snow and very poor visibility.
Another 4 to 7 inches is expected on Tuesday with higher amounts along the south shore of Lake Superior.
Multi-vehicle accidents were reported on both the Blatnik and Bong bridges, resulting in temporary closures on Monday evening. The bridges have since reopened to traffic.
Up to 20 inches of snow was reported in parts of Bayfield and Ashland Counties and the blowing snow prompted the Sheriff’s Office to close Highway 2 between Highway 137 and the City of Ashland.
Also impassable and closed was Highway 13 north of the Town of Eileen.
In Duluth, City buildings will be closed on Tuesday and plows are continuing to clear main roads and will work on residential streets as soon as possible.
City officials are asking residents to limit travel until the storm ends.
Duluth will determine whether to call a Snow Emergency based on the amount and rate of snowfall on Tuesday.
