DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – This is the time of year to spray recommended herbicides to try and control the invasive and destructive knotweed.
The Duluth Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (CISMA) has mapped nearly 400 stands of knotweed in St. Louis County.
The destructive plant spreads easily, blocks visibility and signage on roads and trails, overtakes river banks and lakeshores and can buckle asphalt and cause other property damage.
The plant should not be cut since that stimulates growth and increases its spread, but it can be managed with the proper tools.
Experienced contractors can be hired to do the work which typically costs 200 to 300 dollars.
