SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) – The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) is now investigating an officer involved shooting death in Superior on Tuesday night.
According to the DOJ, a Superior Police Officer located a wanted person in the 1700 block of Oakes Avenue at 9:47 p-m. Along with the wanted person, there were two additional subjects in the area.
As the officer approached, one of the subjects attempted to flee and was engaged in a physical alteration with the officer.
During the altercation, the officer discharged his weapon, striking the subject. Despite life saving measures at the scene, the subject was pronounced dead.
The involved officer also sustained an injury during the incident and was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
The officer will be placed on administrative leave while the DOJ and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office investigates the incident.
The names of those involved have not yet been released by authorities.
