DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The City of Duluth is exploring a partnership with Animal Allies where the city would continue to provide animal control, while Animal Allies would provide subsequent animal care.
The program would be similar to agreements already in place between Animal Allies and the cities of Hermantown, Proctor, Rice Lake and St. Louis County.
Duluth Police Chief Mike Ceynowa says the potential contract would allow police to focus more on the control side of aggressive or off-leash animals while their care is handled by an agency that is more equipped for it.
Both parties are working out various logistical aspects of any potential long term agreement and are optimistic it could be ready to enact in the coming weeks.
