DOUGLAS COUNTY, WI (Northern News Now) – Authorities responded to a multi-structure fire near South Range in Douglas County on Monday morning.
According to Oakland assistant fire chief Stan Dzikonski, nine local departments and the Wisconsin DNR responded to the fire, which burned roughly ten acres and destroyed two houses.
Firefighters arrived on scene around 11 a.m. and found a house on fire. Sparks from that house spread the fire to a second house and the surrounding land.
The DNR brought in bulldozers to contain the wildland fire while local crews worked on the houses. Dzikonski said containment was difficult due to dry conditions and wind.
Access to water was also a challenge, one of the reasons that support from other fire departments was needed. Water had to be collected from a nearby creek and brought to the scene.
Nobody was injured in the fire and the cause is being investigated.
