DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – This season the St. Louis County Public Works Department will be managing 107 road and bridge projects across the county.
Among the more notable projects will be the reconstruction of 40th Avenue West in Duluth including a mini roundabout at the intersection of 40th Avenue West and Grand Avenue. As part of that two year project, the City of Duluth will be replacing utilities at the same time.
Work begins next week to reconstruct the Midway Road and North Cloquet Road intersection which includes adding turn lanes and lowering a hill on Midway Road to improve sight lines.
In Aurora, a portion of Highway 100 will be reconstructed in partnership with the City of Aurora that will be doing city streets and utilities along the corridor.
Several road re-surfacing projects in the county will be using a taconite tailings by-product which is blended with oil and put on the road to protect the surface and improve traction.
Funding for the 83 million dollars worth of projects come from sources that include State aid, the Federal Transportation Sales Tax and local and state bonding.
