MADISON, WI (KDAL) – Over the Labor Day weekend, more conservation wardens and county recreation deputies will be patrolling ATV trails throughout Wisconsin.
Their mission is to help prevent accidents by monitoring for illegal and unsafe operation.
So far this year in Wisconsin there have been 31 ATV-UTV fatalities and 66 non fatal accidents. A large percentage of the injury and fatal crashes involve riders not wearing helmets or seatbelts.
Law enforcement will be looking for those driving under the influence, speeding and operating without the proper safety equipment.
Safety tips include always riding sober, wearing helmets and eye protection and following all signs and speed limits. The Wisconsin DNR off-highway vehicle administrator also recommends taking a safety class regardless of age requirements.
