DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The Northland Vietnam Veterans Association will be remembering the sacrifices and service of those held as prisoners of war (POW) and those missing in action (MIA) with a special event Friday (9-18) on the Duluth Lakewalk.
POW/MIA Recognition Day is a national observance to remember the more than 82 thousand American soldiers still listed as missing from World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, the Gulf Wars and other conflicts.
The Duluth ceremony will be held at the Northland Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the Lakewalk starting at 6 p-m.
Guest speaker will be Air Force retired Senior Master Sergeant Gene Swanson who currently serves as American Legion 8th District Vice Commander. Presiding Officer of the ceremony is Dwight Nelson who served in the U-S Navy and designed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the Lakewalk.
All veterans, their families and the general public are invited to attend the ceremony which is held each year on the 3rd Friday of September.
