DES MOINES, IOWA (KDAL) – Mesabi Metallics has announced the investment of 15 billion dollars to build a new steel complex in Iowa.
They will also spend 3 billion dollars to complete its Minnesota iron ore mine and pellet plant in Nashwauk.
The announcement was made at the White House on Monday and the plan will create the largest single steel complex investment in U-S history and a supply chain that is 100 percent American.
The project will create over 8 thousand permanent and construction jobs.
The Mesabi Metallics’ mine on the Range will produce direct reduction iron ore pellets for use in electric arc furnace steel making.
There are currently over 1,500 construction workers at the Nashwauk site and over 200 employees working at the mine and they expect 350 full time jobs there once the it’s fully operational.
