UMD’s power play came alive on Friday night, scoring three goals on a Minnesota major penalty in the second period to turn a somewhat-competitive game into a blowout.
The three goals came 1:54 apart, two from Ty Hanson and one from Hunter Anderson. 3-1 became 6-1, and the result was never in doubt after that. It was basically an hour-long party for the UMD portion of Friday’s sellout of over 7,000.
This, Gophers coach Brett Larson hopes, is a much different hockey game. Larson has jumbled his forward lines, scratching Tate Pritchard and Mason Moe, and assuming both are healthy, there are probably another half-dozen guys he could be sitting instead. It was that kind of night for Minnesota.
UMD changes nothing, nor should it.
